The Mississippi Turfgrass Short Course is a one-week course designed to teach basic principles of turfgrass management. All subject material is based on turfgrass fundamentals and no prior experience or training is required. Examples from all turfgrass professions are used, including golf course, sports field, commercial turf, residential turf, parks and recreational turf, and roadside turf. Format of instruction is informal and classroom interaction is encouraged between instructors and participants. In 2007, both the Level 1-Turfgrass Management Principles Workshop and the advanced pest control Level 2 course next will be offered. Please keep in mind that Level 1 must have been completed in a prior year before participating in Level 2.

Time and Location
The 2007 Mississippi Turfgrass Short Course will be held Dec. 17-20, 2007. One-site registration begins at 12:00 noon in the lobby of Dorman Hall near room 128. Classes begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, and end at 5 pm. Thursday, Dec. 20. The fee for attendance includes tuition, supplies (notebook and pen), dinner on Monday evening, lunches on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and refreshments and snacks during the class breaks. The fee does not include other meals, lodging, or incidentals.
Pesticide Recertification
A pesticide re-certification credit in Category No. 3, Ornamental and Turf will be given to Short Course participants desiring pesticide re-certification from the Mississippi Bureau of Plant Industry for commercial or private use.
GCSAA Continuing Education Accreditation
The Mississippi Turfgrass Short Course is recognized by the Golf Course Superintendent Association of America as an educational meeting fulfilling continuing education accreditation. CEU's and PDU's will be approved by the GCSAA for credits toward certification or renewal. Documentation of attendance is the responsiblity of each individual Certified Golf Course Superintendent.

Tax Deduction for Education Expense
The United States of America Treasury Regulation 1.162.5 may permit you to take an income tax deduction for education expenses (registration fees and cost of travel, meals, and lodging) undertaken to : "(1) maintain or improve skills required in one's employment or other trade or business, or (2) meet express requirements of an employer on a law imposed as a condition to retention of employment, job status, or rate of compensation."

Registration and Availability
The Mississippi Turfgrass Short Course is limited to 100 participants. Based on past years, attendance requests usually exceed available space. All applications are accepted on a first-come first served basis. A registration form is attached for making an application for attendance.
