THE CONSTITUTION OF THE MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY PRE-LAW SOCIETY

ARTICLE I

                    The name of this club shall be Mississippi State University Pre-Law Society

ARTICLE II

The purpose of this club shall be: (1) to provide advice, information, and programs to assist all students at MSU interested in law and/or in the legal profession; and (2) to promote an interest in and understanding of the law.

ARTICLE III

                    This club shall not be politically affiliated.

ARTICLE IV

Membership in this organization shall be open to any student attending Mississippi State University who maintains a minimum 2.0 grade point average on the 4.0 scale.

ARTICLE V

Section 1. The officers of this organization shall be a president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer, and they shall be elected from the members in good standing of the club.

Section 2. The standing committees shall consist of the publicity committee, the program committee, and the finance committee.

Section 3. The duties of the president shall be to preside at all meetings; of the vice-president, to preside in the absence of the president; of the secretary, to keep the minutes of each meeting and handle all correspondence of the club; and of the treasurer, to have charge of funds belonging to the club and to collect dues.

ARTICLE VI

Section 1. The officers shall be elected annually at the next to the last regularly scheduled meeting of the year. A majority vote of those present and entitled to vote shall be necessary for each election.

Section 2. Only members whose dues are not delinquent, as specified in Article IX, Section 3, shall be entitled to vote in the election of the officers and upon the consideration of any matter or question put to vote.

ARTICLE VII

There shall be at least two meetings per month and whatever special meetings as might be called by the president.

ARTICLE VIII

There shall be a sponsor who will serve in an advisory capacity to the club. He or she will be chosen annually by a majority vote of the club from the faculty of Mississippi State University.

ARTICLE IX

Section 1. There shall be no entrance fee and no fee or charge for initiation into the club.

Section 2. Each member shall pay a semester membership fee or dues in the sum of $7.50, to be collected by the treasurer.

Section 3. Dues must be paid by the third regularly scheduled meeting following admittance to the club.

Section 4. Special fees or assessments may be charged or levied as the club may direct.

ARTICLE X

Section 1. Any proposed by-law, not inconsistent with this constitution, or any proposed amendment to this constitution, shall be presented to the secretary in typewritten form. The secretary shall post notice of the meeting at which the measure is scheduled for presentation and consideration.

Section 2. A two-thirds vote of the active voting membership shall be required for the adoption of the proposed measure.

ARTICLE XI

This constitution shall be ratified by three-fourths of the voting members present and shall take effect upon ratification.
