ABOUT PHI TAU SIGMA

History

Phi Tau Sigma Honorary Society Inc., is the honorary society for food scientists. The founding members were led by Dr. Gideon "Guy" Livingston . It was founded at the University of Massachusetts in 1953. It is a non-profit organization exempt from tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.

Purpose and Objectives

The purpose of Phi Tau Sigma is to enhance professionalism in food science.

The objectives are:

  • To recognize and honor professional achievements of food scientists and technologists;
  • To encourage the application of fundamental scientific principles to food science and technology in each of its branches,
  • To stimulate the exchange of scientific knowledge through meetings, lectures, and publications, and
  • To promote exclusively charitable, scientific, literary and educational programs within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 or the corresponding provision of any further United States Internal Revenue Law.
