The Society sponsors/co-sponsors the following events at
the Annual
Institute of Food Technologist (IFT) meeting:

Carl R.
Fellers Award
Phi Tau Sigma sponsors the Carl R. Fellers Award to honor a member of
the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) and Phi Tau Sigma who has
brought honor and recognition to the profession of food science and
technology through a distinguished career in the profession displaying
exemplary leadership, service and communication skills that enhance the
effectiveness of all food scientists in serving society. The award
consists of a plaque furnished by IFT and an honorarium of $3,000
furnished by Phi Tau Sigma and is presented at the Opening Event of the
IFT Annual Meeting.
Nominations are
encouraged.

Graduate
Research Paper Competition
Phi Tau Sigma works closely with the
IFT Student Association in
sponsoring the
Graduate Research Paper Competition (GRPC) to provide
recognition to graduate students presenting outstanding research papers
at the Annual meeting of IFT and to encourage improvement in the quality
of graduate research papers presented at the IFT Annual Meeting.
Proctor
& Gamble provides travel grants for the six finalists, and awards of
$1,000, $750, and $500 to the students having the three best papers.

Undergraduate Research Paper Competition
Phi Tau Sigma also works with the IFT Student Association to sponsor
the
Undergraduate Research Paper Competition (URPC) to encourage and
stimulate interest in undergraduate research in undergraduate research
in the area of food science and technology and to provide an opportunity
for interested food science undergraduates to organize and present an
original research paper.
E.&J. Gallo Winery and the IFT-SA provide travel grants
for the six finalists and the competition chairs, and
E.&J. Gallo Winery provides awards of $500, $350, and
$250 to the students having the three best papers.

Phi Tau Sigma Breakfast and
Awards Ceremony
At the closing of the IFT
Annual Meeting Phi Tau Sigma sponsors an Awards Breakfast to honor the
students who have excelled at the Annual Meeting, including the GRPC
winners, the URPC winners and the winners of the various IFTSA
competitions and
Division student competitions. At the breakfast the
Carl R. Fellers Award winner is also again recognized and the officers
of Phi Tau Sigma are presented. If any new chapters of Phi Tau Sigma
have been formed they are presented with their Charters at this time.
Recognition is also given to the best Phi Tau Sigma Chapter and other.
Phi Tau Sigma publishes an
Annual Newsletter, the
President's Report, Proceedings (periodically), Highlights from the IFT
Annual Meeting, and periodically it publishes a Membership directory
(periodically). (Phi Tau Sigma is also endorsing the "Pioneers of Food
Science" series of books being published by Food and Nutrition Press)
Membership is obtained through nomination by two members of Phi Tau
Sigma.

or our
headquarters.
There are currently thirty-one Chapters (primarily at educational
institutions) in the United States and Mexico. These are formed to
better serve the members at the local level.
