The major goal of The Bonds is to provide a research experience for undergraduates, which demonstrates the interdisciplinary and collaborative nature of the chemical sciences that illustrates how chemists and chemical engineers approach similar research challenges from different perspectives.

In this context, the purpose of Research Forums is for participants, faculty, and graduate student mentors to gather and discuss related topics, brainstorm, report progress, trouble shoot challenges and plan research activities every two weeks. This is intended to be an interactive and engaging discussion forum with opportunity for contributions from everyone. It is also expected that participants at all levels will find value in the discussions.

What's in it for me?

REU Participants will learn more about the Focus Group, interdisciplinary research, performing independent research and other great topics. Participants are encouraged to use this opportunity to interact with faculty from both disciplines, explore trends in the general area, strengthen knowledge of fundamental theory and discover new techniques and strategies for approaching research challenges.

Faculty Mentors will benefit from discussions about trends, technical organizations and conferences and perceptions in the complementary discipline. It is expected that new venues for disseminating research results will be presented, as well as new funding opportunities. The forums are recommended as a great place to bounce around ideas and take a refreshing new look at the research area.

Graduate Student Mentors will grow professionally by experiencing all of the above!
