Major milestones have been accomplished in animal genome projects in which bovine genome has recently been sequenced and sequence information of porcine genome is increasing. However, the best is yet to come since the real applications of these genome projects will be possible only when actual genes and their protein products regulating important animal traits are known and understood.

Research interests of The Laboratory of Animal Functional Genomics include analyses of bovine and porcine genomic sequence to determine genes involved important phenotypes in reproduction and growth. Defining selectable traits in cattle and pigs will accelerate genetic improvement to produce animals with desired characteristics.
