Eugene Butler, right, retired president of the Progressive Farmer Co. and a 1913 Mississippi A&M alumnus, talks baseball with President Donald Zacharias at a Texas Rangers game in Arlington, Texas, last summer. Butler, a stalwart supporter and loyal friend of Mississippi State, celebrated his 100th birthday on June 11. In honor of the occasion, the university presented him with a leather-bound book of letters from wellwishers. The book's cover was designed as a replica of Private '13, the yearbook of the centenarian's graduating class. Butler was the longtime editor of Progressive Farmer magazine and the driving force in founding Southern Living magazine.
