Engineering center helps manufacturers conserve energy

A new center housed in the Department of Mechanical Engineering will help area manufacturers conserve energy and reduce costs.

The federally funded program, known as the Energy Analysis and Diagnostic Center, is administered by Rutgers University and funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.

"The primary purpose of Mississippi State's EADC is to help serve the energy-related needs of small and medium-size manufacturing facilities within a geographic radius of 150 miles of the university," said Dr. B.K. Hodge, EADC director.

Each assessment consists of a site visit to obtain information on the facility and its energy-consuming processes. A report follows that identifies and recommends specific actions to conserve energy and reduce energy costs.

Each site is visited by either Hodge or Dr. R.E. Forbes, EADC associate director, and a team of undergraduate and graduate students.

For more information on the center, call (662) 325-3260.
