Five Mississippi State aerospace engineering students recently took first-place honors in aircraft design competition at the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics' regional conference in Atlanta.
The graduate students' design of a solar-powered motor glider won first place in competition with five other design teams. Students had to design a solar-powered aircraft that also functioned as a glider to demonstrate that solar power is becoming more feasible as an alternative power supply for light airplanes.
