Transylvania Bowl in full swing

For the 18th consecutive year, Mississippi Blood Services is hosting a competition among alumni, students, and fans of the state's three largest universities to see who can donate the most blood.

Since the Transylvania Bowl began in 1978, Mississippi State has won the competition 10 times, including the last two years. This year's bowl began Sept. 1 and will end Nov. 22, the Wednesday before the University of Mississippi vs. Mississippi State football game.

The winning university receives a $1,000 scholarship, to be presented during pre-game ceremonies before the Egg Bowl game at Scott Field on Nov. 25. The scholarship is sponsored by Union Planters Bank. The rotating Transylvania Bowl trophy, currently located at Mississippi State, also will be presented to the winning school.

The alumnus, fan, or group recruiting the most blood donors will have the honor of naming the college or school at the university to receive the scholarship, in addition to having their name or names inscribed on the trophy.

Mississippi State alumni and friends interested in donating blood may do so at MBS' main center in Jackson, or at any MBS blood drive or drawing station. Drawing stations are located in Biloxi, Brookhaven, Clarksdale, Greenville, Greenwood, Jackson, Oxford, Pearl, Vicksburg, and Waynesboro.

For more information, contact MBS at 662-981-3232.
