Knock em' out, Jerry!

The Nashville Chapter of the Mississippi State Alumni Association hosted a gold album award ceremony for country comedian and recording artist Jerry Clower ('51) in April. On hand for the festivities were, from left, Tandy Rice of Top Billing International, Clower's management group; Marsha Blackburn ('73), director of the Tennessee Commission for Film, Entertainment and Music; David Haley, director of regional promotion for MCA Records; Clower; and Tommy Martin ('84), Nashville Chapter president. Haley presented gold awards to Clower and Rice for two of Clower's albums. Letters and telegrams of congratulations came in from senators Trent Lott and Thad Cochran and MSU football coach Jackie Sherrill, as well as a proclamation from Tennessee Gov. Don Sundquist. Nashville Mayor Philip Bredesen proclaimed April 24 "Jerry Clower Day" in the city. The following day, a reception was held at MCA Records, where Clower again was presented the awards from his peers and the music industry media. (Photo by John McClure)
