Surf the net to MSU's web site

The next time you take a trip on the information superhighway, begin it with a stop at Mississippi State's web site.

One stop at the university's site on the World Wide Web provides you with information on the university, faculty and staff, Starkville, academic departments and centers, administrative units, and various organizations, as well as access to other World Wide Web resources and the university's gopher server, with links to Mitchell Memorial Library, among many other places.

"Mississippi State was one of the first universities in the nation to develop a web site," said Bennet George, associate director of university relations and maintainer of the MSUinfo web server and Alumni Association pages. "Some of the services offered on our site have been pioneering features on the web."

Earlier this year, Mississippi State became one of the first institutions to offer an interactive application process for students to apply for admission. Prospective students access an application form and with a click of the button they can apply to the university.

New developments on the university web pages of interest to alumni include an interactive form for updating personal information with the Alumni Association such as change of address or telephone number. There also is a place for providing information for consideration in the "Statements" section of the Alumnus magazine. And, alumni and friends can search a list of lost alumni to help the Alumni Association update its files.

So next time you are traveling on the information superhighway, take Mississippi State's exit and listen to a message from President Donald Zacharias or the Chapel of Memories carillon, check out the calendar of events, or search the job openings. Using a World Wide Web browser with forms capability such as Netscape Navigator or Mosaic, simply point your browser to Mississippi State's "front door page" at http://www.msstate.edu/ and follow the links.
