Friends of the Libraries focuses on building a library for the future

A group of Mississippi State supporters is seeking fellow donors to enhance the future development of Mitchell Memorial Library and its associated facilities on campus.

Alumni, friends, and students of Mississippi State who are interested in helping increase the collections of the university libraries are encouraged to make contributions to the Friends of the Libraries donor group.

"The purpose of the group is to create an interest among our alumni, friends, and students of the state-of-the-art work going on in our new library facility, and to encourage others to support the collections of the library through private donations," said Tom Stogsdill, director of major gifts.

Construction is expected to be completed later this fall on a $14.6 million renovation and expansion project of Mitchell Memorial Library. "Gifts by Friends of the Libraries members will help ensure that this fantastic new facility is equipped with the cutting-edge resources that our students and faculty need to learn and to conduct research," said Stogsdill

He added that Friends of the Libraries members are invited to a number of special events on campus throughout the year, including such activities as presentations of unique collections, guest authors and lecturers, and other varied and informative subjects.

Those serving as volunteers on the Leadership Committee for the Friends of the Libraries are: Dr. George Lewis, emeritus director of library services, chair; Dr. Ann Mitchell, president and co-owner of CTN/Travel First in Starkville, first vice chair; Frances Coleman, assistant dean of libraries, secretary; Tom Stogsdill, director of major gifts, treasurer; and head basketball coach Richard Williams, honorary membership chair.
