Rushing is Corps of Engineers' Civilian Employee of the Year

John W. Rushing (B.S. '62) of Conyers, Ga., has been named Civilian Employee of the Year by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The award was presented at ceremonies in Washington, D.C., in June.

Rushing is director of programs management for the Corps' South Atlantic Division Office in Atlanta. He has served with the Corps of Engineers since 1962 in a variety of positions.

He currently is responsible for military design and construction and water resources development programs in eight Southeastern states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Rushing was recognized for his superb management of the overall program and his contributions to disaster recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Andrew in south Florida, as well as the 1993 Mississippi River floods.

He also recently led a Corps nationwide task force aimed at streamlining internal review processes, part of the Corps' efforts to accomplish its mission with less manpower and other resources.
