Alumni Association elections set for Homecoming weekend


Elections for leadership positions with the Mississippi State University Alumni Association and its Board of Directors will be held Homecoming weekend. Those elected will begin their terms on Jan. 1, 1997.

Alumni were asked in the summer issue of Mississippi State Alumnus to submit names for consideration for the positions up for election. As a result, the Nominating Committee is prepared to present a slate of names at the association's annual business meeting scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m. in the McCool Hall auditorium. At that time, officially registered delegates of the various alumni chapters will cast their votes for the Nominating Committee's slate, or for any other candidates, should there be any nominations from the floor. All Mississippi State alumni are invited to attend the meeting.

Following is a brief summary of the candidates:

The nominee for national president is Durr Boyles ('82) of Jackson. He is an insurance agent with Boyles, Moak & Brickell insurance agency. Boyles presently serves as First National Vice President for the Alumni Association. He is a member of the Executive Committee for the National Board.

Bill Long ('81) of Webb is the nominee for National First Vice President. He is a territory manager for Agricultural Chemical Sales and presently serves as the association's National Second Vice President. Long is a member of the Executive Committee for the National Board.

The nominee for National Second Vice President is Lamar A. Conerly Jr. ('71) of Destin, Fla. Conerly is an attorney and presently serves as Society Director for the association. He is a member of the Executive Committee for the National Board.

Keith Winfield ('70) of Starkville is again the nominee for National Treasurer, the office which he currently holds. He is a certified public accountant with Watkins, Ward, and Stafford and is a member of the Executive Committe of the association's Board of Directors.

Nominees for regional positions include:

North 3 Region Director:
Eddie Longstreet ('88), West Point, sales representative for Cellular South. Currently serves in this position.

Central 2 Region Director:
Carey P. "Pat" Vanderford ('62), Kosciusko, executive vice president of lending for Merchants and Farmers Bank. Served for a number of years in various offices of the Attala-Choctaw County Chapter of the association, and has served on the selection committee for the Faculty Recognition Program.

South 1 Region Director:
Andy Perry ('79), Laurel, eastern regional marketing manager for the commercial and industrial division of Howard Industries. Actively involved with the association's Jones County Chapter. Former member of the Famous Maroon Band and MSU cheerleader.

Young Director Southern Region:
Jennifer Wicker ('88), Hattiesburg, marketing director, The Curiosity Shoppe and Ye Olde Book Shoppe. Actively involved with the Forrest-Lamar-Perry County Chapter for several years, serving as vice president and as president.

Out-of-State Director:
Tommy Martin ('84), Nashville, Tenn., landscape architect. Served as chapter officer for the association's Nashville Chapter the past six years, the last five as chapter president.
