

George B. Nutt of Clemson, S.C., has been inducted into the Thomas Green Clemson Academy of Engineers at Clemson University. Membership in the academy represents "the highest honor bestowed on Clemson engineers." Nutt, who is often called "the father of agricultural engineering in South Carolina," came to Clemson in 1932 as an associate professor in charge of the newly formed agricultural engineering curriculum. Under his leadership, the curriculum became a department. Nutt later served as director of the South Carolina Cooperative Extension Service from 1955 to 1968.
Andrew H. Thornton of Hobe Sound, Fla., has been reappointed to the Veterans' Advisory Committee on Education by the secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs. He will serve a three-year term. Thornton had a long career with the Department of Veterans Affairs. At the time of his retirement in 1979, he was director of education and rehabilitation services with the Veterans' Benefits Administration of the VA.
Gray Harrison Jr. of Jackson has been elected to the Board of Governors of The American National Red Cross. One of only four new members elected this year, he will serve a three-year term. He also is one of only four Mississippians ever to serve on the board. Harrison is former Adjutant General of Mississippi.
James B. Stuart Jr. of Jackson has been named president and CEO of MS Diversified Corp., which lists among its customers more than 200 automobile dealerships and 200 financial institutions in 14 states. Stuart lettered on the 1945-48 football teams of Coach Allyn McKeen.

Billy D. Pounds (M.Ed. '53, D.Ed. '68) of Columbus, a professor at Mississippi University for Women, has received the Dr. Robert W. Harrison Jr. Distinguished Service Award.
Riley Monroe of Huntsville, Ala., has won two first-place awards in international competition for his woodcarving of a ruddy duck. He captured first place in both the Ruddy Ducks and Diving Ducks novice categories and second place in the Best of Show novice division in the Ward World Championship Wild Fowl Competition in Ocean City, Md. He also has won several awards in local and regional competitions. Monroe, who took up woodcarving only four years ago, is cost analysis division chief in the Command Analysis Directorate at Redstone Arsenal.
Chesley Hines Jr., a gastroenterologist with the Center for Digestive Diseases at Mercy Baptist Medical Center in New Orleans, recently was featured on the cover of The Gastroenterologist, a review journal for practitioners. A two-page biography of Hines appeared in the same issue. Before he and two colleagues formed the CDD three years ago, he was on the medical staff of Ochsner Medical Foundation for more than 20 years, serving as staff president from 1989-91. Hines is a clinical professor of medicine at Louisiana State University, New Orleans, and a clinical associate professor at Tulane University.

H. Kenneth Smith Jr. of Rome, Ga., has been named chief operating officer for the Harbin Clinic, a 60-physician, multi-specialty group. He joined the clinic in 1994 as director of clinical services. Smith, who received a Distinguished Service Award from the Mississippi State Alumni Association in 1991, was president of the association's Mobile Chapter in 1988-89.
William Stanley Anthony (M.S. '70) of Greenville has been promoted to brigadier general in the U.S. Army Reserve. He currently is deputy commander at the 412th Engineer Command. Kevin Palmer Couch of Jackson is campaign manager for the 1996 Congressional campaign of Congressman Roger Wicker of Mississippi's 1st District. This is the sixth major campaign Couch has been involved in, including the reelection campaign of Gov. Kirk Fordice.
R. Lee Ford II of Starkville is working in the optometry offices of his father, Reagan L. Ford, and is planning to attend optometry school. Lee was a member of Mississippi State's football team.
Michael T. Monto of Pensacola, Fla., was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air Force in May 1995. In November 1995, he started undergraduate navigator training at Pensacola Naval Air Station. He currently is a student navigator in TRARON-10 (VT-10).
Chad Parker and Carrie Smith Parker now live in Smyrna, Ga. Carrie received a master's degree in tax accounting at the University of Alabama in August. She is a tax associate with the accounting firm of Price Waterhouse LLP in Atlanta. Chad is an assistant golf professional at East Lake Golf Club.
Tim S. Raynaud of Clarksville, Tenn., has been promoted to engineer II with The Trane Co. in Clarksville.
Navy Ensign Jeffrey S. Warren of Greensboro, N.C., has received his commission as a naval officer after completing Officer Candidate School.
Nicolle Carter has been chosen to participate in the "Winning for Life" postgraduate scholarship program, a partnership between the NCAA Foundation and Entergy Mississippi. Nicolle was a member of the Mississippi State volleyball team.
Christopher Warren Perry of Wilmore, Ky., is attending Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore. He was married in June to Renae Rickles of Birmingham.
Susan Renee Taylor of Hattiesburg, a graduate student at the University of Southern Mississippi, was a summer 1996 intern in the Public Information Office at East Central Community College in Decatur.
