Student interior design group named No. 1

The Mississippi State student chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers is the nation's best.

The 70-member organization received the 1996-97 Outstanding Student Chapter Award at the recent national ASID conference in Seattle, Wash. One of more than 230 chapters nationwide, the Mississippi State group also took the Best Newsletter Award.

The university's accredited interior design program is a part of the School of Human Sciences in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Associate professor Margaret Bateman directs the program. Assistant professor Beth Miller is chapter adviser.

Selection for the national award is based on community service activities, involvement with local professional chapters, and group accomplishments, among other things.
