Ron Polk bound for Hall of Fame

Recently retired Mississippi State baseball Coach Ron Polk will be inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame next March. The honor came just six weeks after he announced his retirement as the university's head baseball coach after 22 seasons.

Polk, who is the Southeastern Conference's all-time winningest coach, led five Mississippi State baseball teams to the College World Series, including his 1997 squad. His teams had 12 40-win seasons and made 15 appearances in the NCAA regional tournaments.

Early in the 1997 season, Polk topped the 1,000 career win mark, making him just the 16th coach in the history of college baseball to reach that milestone.
