Flame monument stands as reminder of university supporters

An eternal flame monument honoring Mississippi State supporters was unveiled in front of Allen Hall administration building just prior to the Mississippi State vs. South Carolina football game on Sept. 27.

The flame-a visual symbol of The Campaign for Mississippi State-is a tribute to all persons who have supported the university throughout its 120-year history, especially those who made contributions to the recently completed major gifts campaign.

Also honoring campaign donors is the Walk of Honor, where the last of some 6,400 bricks are being laid this fall. The walk is made up of bricks containing the names of those campaign donors who contributed $500 or more during the five-year effort. The bricks around the eternal flame monument also contain the names of campaign donors.

Located in the heart of campus on the historic Drill Field, the Walk of Honor stretches from the statue of Stephen D. Lee to the flag pole.

"There was a tremendous response from our alumni and friends to the Walk of Honor project," said Dr. Billy C. Ward, vice president for institutional advancement. "This is a new tradition we've started at Mississippi State, and it will serve as a constant reminder to all who walk across the Drill Field as to the success of The Campaign for Mississippi State.
