
Albert George Bennett Sr. ('33, M.S. '59) of Starkville, a retired entomologist and leader of Extension Entomology at Mississippi State, died May 13, 1997. He was 86.
Bennett's long career began in 1934 when he was named assistant county agent in Prentiss County. He held a multi-county assignment in Alcorn, Itawamba, and Tishomingo counties, where he led programs for improved corn production, pasture improvement, artificial insemination of dairy cattle, and overall land use.
He was instrumental in organizing the Mississippi Entomology Association, and he conducted the nation's first federally funded pesticide safety program to reduce residues of agricultural chemicals on farm products.
Bennett was awarded the National Agricultural County Agents Association's Distinguished Service Award.
