
Charles Irving Smith ('33, M.S. '52) of Starkville, a former county agent and 4-H leader, died June 7, 1997. He was 86.
Smith served as county agent in Leake, Covington, Neshoba, and Attala counties from 1934 to 1953. He was State 4-H Club leader at Mississippi State from 1953 to 1966. For two years, he was acting director of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships at the university, retiring in 1968.
In 1949, Smith received a Distinguished Service Award from the National County Agricultural Agents Association. He received the Faculty Achievement Award for service from the Mississippi State Alumni Association in 1966.
After retiring from the Mississippi Cooperative Extension Service, he worked for the Oktibbeha County Cooperative for 15 years.
