
Smith featured in new book celebrating American women
Janet Marie Smith ('81) of Baltimore, Md., is featured in a newly released book that celebrates the diverse life paths of American women.
Published last April by St. Martin's Press, A Woman's Path, written by Jo Giese and with photos by Jill Johnson, features candid first-person stories and is available in bookstores.
A graduate of Mississippi State's School of Architecture, Smith is president of Turner Sports and Entertainment Development, a Time Warner Company, and is vice president of planning and development for the Atlanta Braves.
She was instrumental in the development of the 1996 Olympic Stadium in Atlanta, and its subsequent conversion to the Braves' major league baseball park. She also contributed to planning of the new basketball arena for the Atlanta Hawks.
A Jackson native, Smith's prior accomplishments include serving as consulting architect for the construction of Oriole Park at Camden Yards, home of the Baltimore Orioles; coordinating architecture and design for Battery Park City, a 92-acre development in New York City which includes the World Financial Center; and most recently serving as vice president for sports and entertainment facilities for Turner Properties.
She holds a master's degree in urban planning from City College of New York.
Smith recently was honored by Partners for Livable Communities for her design work on Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore.
She and her husband, F. Barton Harvey III, have three children: Bart, Nell, and John. (See birth announcements.)
