
A member of the university's mechanical engineering faculty has been honored as an outstanding international research scientist.
Associate professor Steven R. Daniewicz received the American Society for Testing and Materials' 1999 Keith J. Miller Young Investigator Award.
ASTM is a 101-year-old organization dedicated to developing standard test methods and other guidelines for metals, paints, plastics, and other products. Its 32,000 members come from more than 100 countries and include individuals from industry, government, and education.
The honor is presented each year to promising ASTM members who are beginning their professional careers. To expand global perspectives in their research fields, award winners also receive funding to attend an international conference of their choice.
Daniewicz, an MSU faculty member since 1994, is a specialist in stress analysis, with emphasis on metal fatigue in aircraft.
He received a bachelor's degree from Arizona State University and master's and doctoral degrees from Ohio State.
