Molly Halbert ('58) of Starkville, founder and retired executive director of the Bulldog Club at Mississippi State, died Jan. 3, 2000. He was 64.

Halbert headed the Bulldog Club for 15 years, from its chartering in 1974 until 1989. The club is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the athletic program at Mississippi State by providing scholarships for student-athletes and helping to secure needed facilities.

An Aberdeen native, Halbert was a three-year letterman in football and baseball at MSU and played in the 1957 Blue-Gray All-Star Classic. Following graduation, he signed a baseball contract with the New York Yankees and subsequently was traded to the Cincinnati Reds, where he was a catcher for three years.

In 1967, he was named field secretary for the MSU Alumni Association. From 1969 to 1975, he was an assistant football coach and recruiting coordinator.
