Endowed fund honors retired professor

An endowed fund has been established at the university in honor of a Mississippi agronomist who developed the use of anhydrous ammonia as a fertilizer.

The fund is named in honor of Dr. W.B. Andrews of Starkville. Andrews, who received his bachelor's degree in agriculture education in 1929 and his master's degree in agriculture in 1931 from Mississippi State, is a retired agronomist from Mississippi Chemical Corp. and former professor of agronomy at Mississippi State.

Funding for the endowment was made possible by a gift of stock from Mississippi Chemical Corporation.

The W.B. Andrews Endowment for Soil Sciences will provide funds for the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Experiment Station. Annual earnings from the stock will support graduate assistants in the soil science area, purchase needed research equipment, and fund other soil science projects.
