A Pennsylvania university administrator is the new assistant vice president for student affairs for cultural diversity at Mississippi State.

Miller
Dr. Samuel T. Miller had been assistant director of student affairs at Penn State University since receiving a doctorate from Mississippi State in 1993. While completing his doctoral work here, he worked as a graduate assistant in the dean of students' office. He was an intern at the Richard Holmes Cultural Diversity Center while earlier earning a master's degree in education.

Miller succeeds Brenda Richardson, who last year became associate dean of students at the University of Tennessee.

Mississippi State's vice president for students affairs, Dr. Roy H. Ruby, said Miller's professional capabilities were evident during his graduate student days on campus. In addition to serving on a search committee to name a new head of the Counselor Education/Educational Psychology Department, Miller was appointed to the university's Research Council and Residence Life Judicial Affairs and Housing Assignments committees.

Miller received bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
