The Campaign for Mississippi State: To Serve Mississippi and Beyond received the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education District III "Grand Award" in the educational fund-raising programs category of the total programs division. The award is part of the organization's 1995 Advancement Awards Competition and was presented at the CASE District III Conference in Atlanta in February.
CASE District III serves member institutions from the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
"This award is a tribute to the efforts of national campaign chairman Jim Ashford, the other volunteer leaders, and the alumni and friends of the university, whose support is making this fund-raising campaign a success," said Dr. Billy C. Ward, vice president for institutional advancement. "It also is a credit to the leadership of President Zacharias and the commitment of the administration, faculty, and staff.
"I am particularly proud of the cooperative efforts from the staff of the Alumni Association, Office of Development, Office of University Relations, and University Television Center. Each group is playing a significant role in the success of the campaign."
The university's entry, "To Serve Mississippi . . . and Beyond," detailed The Campaign for Mississippi State, chronicling the campaign's achievements from its planning stages four years ago to its successful attainment of the initial $78 million goal in October to the setting of the new goal of $110 million over the remaining two years of the effort. The entry also provided samples of campaign publications and publicity.
The campaign has received commitments of about $87 million, including outright gifts, pledges, and deferred gifts.
CASE, which has headquarters in Washington, D.C., includes more than 3,000 member institutions.
Judges had the option of awarding one grand award and up to four awards of excellence and five special merit awards in each category.
