Pruett receives career research award

Dr. Steve Pruett of biological sciences has won a research award from the National Institutes of Health.

Pruett received the Research Career Development Award, a five-year research grant allowing him to continue his study of alcohol's affect on the immune system. His work also will delve into how the nervous and endocrine systems interact with alcohol.

"Alcohol affects these systems greatly," he said. "Some of what the alcohol does to them may relate to what it does to the immune system."

In addition, because pollutants can affect the immune system, Pruett is working on an Environmental Protection Agency project in which he is making statistical models of the system.
