Student affairs leader receives service award

Dr. Gene Tice of Mississippi State is this year's winner of a top regional student affairs professional honor.

Assistant vice president for student affairs since 1988, Tice has received the H. Howard Davis Sr. Award of the Southern Association for College Student Affairs.

One of four major annual honors, the Davis Award recognizes outstanding service to the 1,000-member professional organization representing 15 states and the District of Columbia.

Tice, also an assistant professor of counselor education, is a former SACSA president, treasurer, and executive council member.

He holds a bachelor's degree from Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio, and master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Alabama.

Tice is the third Mississippi State administrator to receive the Davis Award. Former student affairs vice president Robert Jones was honored in 1983; former dean of students Harold Hall, in 1989.
