The three recipients of the Alumni Association's Distinguished Service Award for 1995 are, from left, Annette B. D'Arcy, Charles Edward Donald Jr., and Pat Butler Bell.
Pat Butler Bell of Clinton, who received her bachelor's degree in education from Mississippi State in 1972. She is an assistant principal at Northside Elementary School in Clinton and an adjunct faculty member at Mississippi College.
Bell has been a member of the Central Mississippi Chapter since 1987, and has served on the board since 1992. She served as president of the chapter in 1995. As annual giving chairperson in 1993, she raised more than $50,000 for the university, the highest amount ever raised and twice the amount raised the previous year. In 1987, she received the Top Dawg Award for her work with the chapter's phonathon.
Annette B. D'Arcy of Atlanta, Ga., who, although she never attended Mississippi State, has been instrumental in efforts for the Atlanta Chapter to provide scholarship funds for entering freshmen from the Atlanta area. In the fall of 1993, she organized the first scholarship dinner and auction to raise funds for the chapter's scholarship. Prior to organizing the dinner, she solicited funds to present $500 to an entering freshman in May 1993. She currently serves as scholarship chairperson and is working toward providing a four-year scholarship.
Charles Edward Donald Jr. of Port Gibson, who received his bachelor's degree in forestry from Mississippi State in 1978. He is the president of Charles Donald Pulpwood Company in Port Gibson. During his presidency of the Claiborne-Jefferson Chapter from 1984 to 1994, the chapter consistently was ranked as an Honor Chapter and was selected as the top chapter in the state.
