Eight of the university's most prominent alumni were honored as College and School Alumni of the Year at the Alumni Association's annual Alumni Awards Banquet in January.
The 1996 College and School Alumni of the Year are:
- Larry A. Albert of Hattiesburg, School of Architecture. Albert, who received his bachelor's degree in architecture from Mississippi State in 1978, owns Albert & Associates Architects.
- Dr. George Ashby Green of Knoxville, Tenn., College of Agriculture and Home Economics. Green, who received his bachelor's degree in animal science from Mississippi State in 1970, is a manager of industrial professionals for Protiva, a division of Monsanto Company.
- George W. Bryan of Memphis, Tenn., College of Business and Industry. Bryan, who received his bachelor's degree in business administration from Mississippi State in 1968, is senior vice president of Sara Lee Inc.
- Dr. John P. Elliott Jr. of Tupelo, College of Arts and Sciences. Elliott, who received his bachelor's degree in pre-medicine from Mississippi State in 1955, practices at a private urology office.
- David L. Hall of Slidell, La., College of Forest Resources. Hall, who received his bachelor's degree in forestry from Mississippi State in 1961 and his master's degree in zoology/wildlife management in 1962, is a retired special projects officer with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
- Dr. Harold L. Newcomb of Batesville, College of Veterinary Medicine. Newcomb, who received his doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Mississippi State in 1984, is co-owner and partner of the South Panola Veterinary Hospital.
- Nancy A. Varian of East Canton, Ohio, College of Education. Varian, who received bachelor's degrees in education and library science from Mississippi State in 1974 and a master's degree in elementary education in 1976, is a teacher and media specialist for the Osnaburg Local School District.
- Wenton R. Walker of Madison, College of Engineering. Walker, who received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Mississippi State in 1959 and his master's degree in electrical engineering in 1962, is president and co-owner of Diversified Technologies Inc.
