Union ballroom serves as temporary cafeteria

Campus dining has moved into temporary quarters as Mississippi State's massive Perry Cafeteria, built in 1922, undergoes a $3 million overhaul during the spring and summer semesters.

A construction worker with Southern Group Inc. of Columbus removes caulking from a window atop the Perry Cafeteria at Mississippi State University. Built nearly 75 years ago, the Gothic-style dining facility is undergoing a major renovation.
Until August, breakfast, lunch, and dinner are being served in the Colvard Union ballroom.

The State Fountain will continue its bakery operations from the Perry Cafeteria basement. The catering kitchen has been temporarily moved to McArthur Hall.

The cafeteria renovation was made possible by a major gift from Mrs. Jane Perry of Spanish Fort, Ala. She provided a $1.5 million annuity in memory of her late husband, George D. Perry, an alumnus and former president of the university's foundation.

Interior renovations now under way include cleaning the Gothic-style dining hall's ceiling and masonry. Also planned are new flooring, improved lighting, and a redesigned service area
