Distinguished Service Awards presented to three


Three Mississippi State alumni were honored at the annual Alumni Awards Banquet in January for their service to the university through local alumni chapters.

Receiving Distinguished Service Awards for 1996 were:

  o Katherine Johns of Cincinnati, Ohio, who attended Mississippi State in 1969. She is a senior technical information specialist with International Paper Company. Johns served the Mobile, Ala., Chapter from 1991-96, as both secretary and president. Under her leadership, the chapter was a 1993 and 1994 Honor Chapter.

Two winners of the Alumni Association's Distinguished Service Award for 1996 are Allen Maxwell Jr. of New Albany and Pat Tripp of Collins. Not pictured is Katherine Johns of Cincinnati, Ohio.
  o Allen Maxwell Jr. of New Albany, who received his bachelor's degree in business administration from Mississippi State in 1978. He currently works for State Auto Insurance Company, serving as the North Mississippi representative. Maxwell has served the Alumni Association since 1990 as part of three different chapters-Central Mississippi, Washington County, and Union County.

  o Pat Tripp of Collins, who received her bachelor's degree in educational psychology and social studies from Mississippi State in 1969. She teaches fourth-grade reading at Collins Elementary School and has been a teacher for 28 years. Tripp has been a part of the Covington County Chapter since 1982, serving as secretary, publicity/newsletter chairperson, social chairperson, and most recently as president.
