Mary Alice Taylor ('71), the top female executive at Federal Express Corp., has resigned to join Citicorp.

Taylor has been named executive vice president of operations at Citicorp, the New York-based parent of Citibank, a 90,000-employee organization that provides a broad range of financial services in the U.S. and abroad.

According to Jack Morris, a Citicorp spokesman, Taylor "will be in charge of managing our operations around the world and finding common platforms for everything from processing securities to credit card transactions. We want the best, most cost-effective technology solutions, and she'll be in charge of finding them and implementing them."

She previously was senior vice president for North America at FedEx, where she managed about half of the company's 114,000 employees.

Before joining FedEx, Taylor, a certified public accountant, worked for Shell Oil, Cook Industries, and Northern Telecom.

She is a member of the board of directors of Allstate Corp. and a member of the executive advisory board for transportation studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She also is a member of the board of directors of the Mississippi State University Foundation.
