
Alfred B. Wiles ('40) of Starkville, a retired research phytopathologist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and professor emeritus of plant pathology at Mississippi State, died Oct. 1, 1996. He was 77.
A native of Madison County, Wiles earned graduate degrees from the University of Arkansas and the University of Wisconsin.
His research and graduate teaching focused on diseases of cotton and their control. He was the author of numerous articles and papers and was a member of the American Phytopathological Society, Sigma Xi, Gamma Sigma Delta, and the Cotton Disease Council. He was a World War II veteran.
