New planned giving society announced

Alumni and friends who include contributions to the university in their wills will be recognized by the Mississippi State University Foundation as members of the newly created Old Main Society.

The planned giving society was approved at the spring meeting of the foundation's board of directors in April.

"Mississippi State has benefited greatly over the years from alumni and friends who have left portions of their estates to the university," said director of planned giving Jim Alinder of the new club. "It is fitting we honor these benefactors with a society named after one of the university's most treasured memories."

Alinder said that new members of the Old Main Society will receive a special edition of Old Main Stories, a pictorial history of Old Main dormitory.

University supporters who already have included the university in their wills also will become members of the Old Main Society.

Donors must furnish the Office of Development with a copy of the will, or that portion pertaining to the bequest to the university.

Estate gifts may be designated to a particular academic discipline or university program, or designated for unrestricted use by the university. Permanently endowed funds also can be established, with only the income from the endowment being used to support scholarships, chairs, professorships, or other university projects or programs.
