Parents' Fund, phonathons enjoy spring success

Mississippi State University parents pledged more than $62,000 to the university's 1994 Parents' Fund in support of Mitchell Memorial Library.

The Parents' Fund '94: Building the Library for the Future telemarketing campaign was conducted by student callers who contacted more than 13,000 parents and received 1,204 pledges. The average gift was $52.

Money contributed to the Parents' Fund goes to purchase much needed books and electronic information databases for Mitchell Memorial Library.

Last year's inaugural Parents' Fund received more than $50,000 from the 9,000-plus parents contacted.

Also this spring, 11 phonathons were conducted by Mississippi State alumni chapters from Georgia to Texas. Phonathons by the Alcorn County, Central Mississippi, Covington County, Harrison County, Oktibbeha County, Warren County, Yazoo County, Atlanta, Ga., Birmingham, Ala., Mobile, Ala., and Tarrant County, Texas, chapters raised more than $24,700 in pledges and contributions from 457 alumni and friends.

Several more alumni chapters had phonathons scheduled for this summer.

This fall, the Alumni Association will conduct its third annual giving telemarketing effort. Last fall's program raised more than $408,000 in pledges and contributions.
