A Kansas State University administrator is the new dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Mississippi State.
Frank E. Saal, head of Kansas State's Psychology Department, will assume his duties in mid-July.
The College of Arts and Sciences is Mississippi State's largest academic unit, offering degrees in nearly two dozen academic majors and enrolling about 4,000 students.
"Most of Dr. Saal's academic career has been at Kansas State, a land-grant institution that has much in common with Mississippi State," said Derek Hodgson, provost and vice president for academic affairs.
"He distinguished himself there as an excellent administrator," Hodgson added. "Our search committee, which included a broad representation from the college and other constituents, was enthusiastic about the opportunity to attract Dr. Saal to Mississippi State."
Saal holds a bachelor's degree in general sciences from the University of Rochester, a master's in industrial psychology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and a doctorate in industrial/organizational psychology from Pennsylvania State University.
He became assistant professor at Kansas State in 1981, rising to become department head in 1989.
He is the author of five books on industrial psychology, as well as the psychology of pay and compensation and of organizational behavior.
