North Carolina couple establishes scholarship

A High Point, N.C., couple with strong Mississippi ties is establishing a Mississippi State scholarship to support horticulture and library science students.

Morris and Peggy Adams, formerly of Starkville, are naming the university as beneficiaries of a $50,000 irrevocable life insurance policy. Following the death of the surviving member of the couple, the university will use proceeds from the policy to establish the Carroll Sydney and Marguerite Morris Adams Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Carroll and Marguerite, Mr. Adams' parents, each had long careers as educators in Kentucky, South Carolina, and Mississippi. Both worked at Mississippi A&M College (now Mississippi State), Carroll as a horticulture professor and Marguerite as assistant librarian.

Morris Adams, a Starkville native and 1950 Mississippi State graduate, is a retired vice president for marketing and corporate affairs with Thomas-Built Buses Inc. Peggy Adams was a secretary for Starkville's Sudduth Elementary School when the couple moved to High Point in 1964.
