A $250,000 donation from the state's largest cellular provider is supporting the university's scholarship program.

Cellular South has pledged $50,000 a year for five years to establish the Cellular South Accounting Scholarship and the Cellular South Computer Science Scholarship. The firm's gift will be equally divided between the two funds.

Beginning with the 1999 fall semester, Cellular South scholarships will be awarded to state residents majoring in accounting and computer science.

Currently serving 42 Mississippi counties, Cellular South received the 1996 Mississippi Quality Award for Excellence. The company has 44 retail locations around the state.
