Frank Oakes of McComb, a VISTA volunteer, has been chosen by Gov. Kirk Fordice to serve on the Juvenile Justice Task Force. He also directs the VISTA literacy program in southwest Mississippi.

Ernest H. Randall Jr. of Dallas, Texas, executive vice president of Vantage-Bradford Companies, a commercial real estate firm, has received the 1997 Outstanding Service Award from the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties. He is president of the Greater Dallas Planning Council and of the Plano (Texas) Developers Council.

Sidney P. Saucier III of Huntsville, Ala., has been named associate director of the Marshall Space Flight Center. Saucier joined Marshall in 1962 as a propulsion and power engineer and has held engineering and technical management positions of increasing responsibility. He was appointed director of the Propulsion Laboratory in 1996. He has been awarded two NASA Exceptional Service Medals for exemplary leadership and successful management.

Edward "Eddy" J. Lee of Jackson has been named 1997 Alumnus of the Year for the Central Mississippi Chapter of the Mississippi State University Alumni Association. He was instrumental in establishing the chapter's scholarship program and in encouraging the inclusion of women on the chapter's board of directors. Lee is a registered insurance, estate, and corporate retirement planning representative.

Hugh H. Summerville Jr. of Aliceville, Ala., has been elected chairman of the Board of Directors of Cotton Incorporated, the world's largest cotton research and promotion program, representing more than 30,000 producers in 17 states. Summerville is a cotton producer and head of Summerville Enterprises.

Hugh W. Coleman of Huntsville, Ala., professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Alabama, Huntsville, and eminent scholar in propulsion, has been named a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

James Fetterman (M.A. '70) of Sarasota, Fla., served as a National Jamboree Scoutmaster at the Boy Scout National Jamboree last summer at Fort A.P. Hill, Va. He also has received a Boy Scouts of America Award of Merit.

Johnny Goode of Birmingham, Ala., an IBM employee, has received a master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

James H. Kopf of Ridgeland has been appointed chief engineer for the Mississippi Department of Transportation. A 30-year MDOT employee, he most recently was assistant chief engineer of operations.

J. Larry Roberts of Umatilla, Fla., is president of J. Larry Roberts Inc., a forensic accounting and tax consulting firm. He also is a senior auditor with the Defense Contract Audit Agency.

Burton B. Hosch Jr. of Tupelo has been named president of Deposit Guaranty National Bank of Tupelo. He previously was president of Deposit Guaranty-Natchez. Hosch is past president of the Mississippi State University Alumni Association.

Jim McCullough of Memphis, Tenn., president of General Truck Sales & Service, has been elected chairman of Volvo Trucks North America National Dealer Council for 1998.

William L. Smith has been named general counsel at Mississippi Chemical Corp. in Yazoo City. He is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He previously was a partner in the Jackson law firm of Brunini, Grantham, Grower & Hewes.

Jim Koerber of Hattiesburg, owner of the Koerber Company, has been elected president of the Mississippi chapter of the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts.

John C. Henry has been assigned to the Washington Bureau of the Houston (Texas) Chronicle. He previously was political editor for the newspaper. Before that, he worked for the Delta Democrat-Times in Greenville and the Austin American-Statesman in Austin, Texas.

R. Michael Watkins of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has been promoted to Aviant product business manager at Diamond V Mills, a producer of animal feed ingredients. Aviant is a new line currently being introduced worldwide. Watkins formerly was the company's director of international technical services.

Michael Snowden of Ridgefield, Wash., a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve, has been named battalion commander of the 3/414 Regiment at Fort Lewis, Wash.

Stephen Baine Rigby of Oak Grove, Va., has been named cellarmaster in charge of all wine production at Ingleside Plantation Vineyards, Oak Grove, Va., in the historic Northern Neck region.

Mary Derivaux Bass (M.B.A. '79) of Houston, Texas, has joined Spencer Stuart Executive Search Consultants as an executive search consultant in the company's Houston office. She previously was a general partner with Triad Ventures Ltd.

Richard L. Johnson of Yazoo City has been promoted to assistant to the senior vice president-operations at Mississippi Chemical Corp. He has been with the company since 1981.

Tom McWilliams of Jackson, vice president of Mississippi Credit Union System, was named 1997-98 Meeting Partner of the Year for the National Speakers'Association, New Orleans Chapter.

William R. Sanderson of Laurel has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Sanderson Farms Inc. He has been with the company since 1979 and is the son of the late Joe Frank Sanderson Sr., the firm's co-founder.

Jayne Perkins has been named registrar at the University of Southern Mississippi. She previously was associate dean and registrar at Millsaps College in Jackson. She is working toward a doctorate in educational administration at USM.

Mark Edward Ertel of Jacksonville, Fla., has been promoted to dean of students at Jacksonville University. He previously was associate dean.

Curtis Dean Burchfield of New Albany has taught government, sociology, economics, and history at Pontotoc High School for 17 years, where he is chair of the Social Science Department. He also is an adjunct history instructor at Itawamba Community College.

John Bradley Dale (B.S. '83) of Long Beach has been promoted to Mississippi region manager with Orkin Pest Control. He joined the company in 1987 and was Gulfport branch manager prior to his promotion.

Paul G. Heflin of Washington, D.C., has been named studio administrator for the Washington office of the Hillier Group architectural firm. The Hillier Group is the third largest architecture and planning firm in the country. Heflin has been with the company for 10 years.

Frederick W. Stokes of Pearcy, N.J., has received the American Cyanamid Company's 1997 Circle of Excellence Award for sales expertise. He has been with the company for 10 years.

Tyrone Bledsoe (M.Ed. '88) of Rocky Mount, N.C., has been named vice president for student life at North Carolina Wesleyan College. He previously was assistant vice chancellor for student affairs at North Carolina Central University.

James W. Butler III of Cumming, Ga., has been elected to the board of the Association of Online Professionals, an Internet advocacy and consumer education association. Butler is a partner in the law firm of Arnall Golden and Gregory in Atlanta.

L. Scott Shappley of Brandon has joined Mississippi Hospital Association Diversified Services as an account manager. He previously worked for Centra Benefit Services.

Riley Burnett Collins Jr. of Ridgeland has been promoted to shift superintendent at Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Plant in Port Gibson.

Travis B. Moore (M.A. '86) of Southaven recently was a delegate to the National League of Cities convention in Philadelphia, Pa. He is in his second term on the Southaven Board of Aldermen and is treasurer of the DeSoto County Republican Party Executive Committee.

Mary Beth Hartnett Brejnik of Denver, Colo., is senior import merchandiser for Karman Inc., an apparel manufacturing company. She is responsible for international production in Asia and the Middle East.

Tracy Lynn Duke Hill of Parker, Colo., has been promoted to senior software engineer at ManTech International Corp., following assignments in Germany and England.

Michael Edwin Roberts of The Woodlands, Texas, account manager for Sonat Marketing Co. in Houston, has been elected treasurer of the Houston Energy Association for 1998.

Richard Todd Norman of Collinsville has joined Exxon Company International in Houston, Texas, as a drilling engineer. He also is a captain in the Air Force Reserve as a radar navigator and is an officer and building contractor with his family business, Norman Enterprises in Meridian.

Jim Cowan of Plainfield, Ill., has been promoted to design/production supervisor at Flying Color Graphics in Chicago.

Phillip E. Smith of Starkville has been named graphic designer/illustrator with the Agricultural Communications Department of the Mississippi Cooperative Extension Service at Mississippi State. He previously was senior graphic designer in the Publications Department at the University of Southern Mississippi.

Lee Thaggard of Meridian has been made a partner in the law firm of Bourdeaux & Jones.

Eduardo E. Drake of Minneapolis, Minn., a registered patent attorney, is an associate with the intellectual property law firm of Schwegman, Lundberg, Woessner, & Kluth in Minneapolis.

Patricia S. Lott of New Orleans, La., has been promoted to assistant director of financial aid at Tulane University Medical Center. She previously was a financial aid counselor and program coordinator for student affairs at Tulane University's School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.

Christopher K. Moore of Eden Prairie, Minn., is a project leader in the Financial Systems division of Best Buy. He previously was a systems analyst with Ferrellgas in Liberty, Mo.

Deborah McCombs Moore of Eden Prairie, Minn., is master servicing/MBS supervisor with Knutson Mortgage. She previously was in the Corporate Accounting Department of J.D. Reese Realtors in Overland Park, Kan.

Dave H. Welsh of Houston, Texas, has been promoted to staff planning analyst with Exxon Pipeline Co.

Jay Halford of Gautier has completed requirements to obtain a Professional Engineer Certification. He is a senior engineer with Mississippi Power Co. in Pascagoula.

Rhonda Elaine Palmertree of Cramerview, Johannesburg, South Africa, is a graphic designer and art director and recently has been hired as a web page designer by NetActive Internet in Johannesburg. Last year, she studied web design at Chelsea College of Art and Design in London, England.

Laura Ann Griffeth of Starkville has earned a Ph.D. in agricultural education at Oklahoma State University and is a temporary assistant professor in the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education at Mississippi State.

Marion B. Harris (M.A. '93) of Midlothian, Va., has joined Crestar Bank of Richmond as vice president of balance sheet management. He previously was vice president of asset/liability management at First USA Capital Markets in Dallas, Texas.

Regina Hollingsworth Italiano of Ridgeland works in the Accounts Payable Department at Millsaps College.

Henry Lee Keen graduated from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in May 1997 and now is employed in the Department of Internal Medicine and Physiology at the University of Iowa.

Allen Owings of Geismar, La., is commercial nursery crop and home grounds specialist with the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service of the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center. He also is executive secretary of the Louisiana Association of Nurserymen.

Susan Brannon Reich of Southaven has won the Southhaven Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year award as co-owner of Brannon Professionals, a family owned job placement service. She is in partnership with her brother, Mark Brannon ('93). The two were featured in The Chamber, a publication of the Southaven Chamber of Commerce.

Brian Currie of Long Beach has been promoted to senior account manager in the Retail Sales Division of Triton Systems Inc., a manufacturer of ATM machines and related banking equipment.

Thomas W. Sanders of Lusby, Md., works for ARINC Research Corp. as a support contractor for the U.S. Navy. He is a flight test engineer.

Greta Wages of Northport, Ala., is human resources manager at NorthRiver, a private club owned and operated by Tuscaloosa-based Gulf States Paper Corp. She previously was a human resources specialist at Carlisle Engineered Products in Tuscaloosa.

James Todd Arnold of Orlando, Fla., works for EDAW Inc. as a consultant to Walt Disney Imagineering on the new Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park in Orlando. He also is working on design and construction administration for Universal Studios' Islands of Adventure theme park.

Steve Norman Horton of Madison has been named regional vice president of Enterprise Capital Management for the company's Mississippi and Alabama territory. Enterprise is a money management firm headquartered in Atlanta.

William Daryl Lewis of Lewes, Del., has joined Intervet Inc. in Millsboro, Del., as FDA registration specialist. He previously was a dairy specialist with Purina Mills in Roanoke, Va.

Chris Powers of Franklin, Tenn., has been promoted to associate with the architecture firm of Gresham, Smith, & Partners in Nashville.

Leif Revere of Ridgeland has been promoted to system development manager for the Logistics Division of Proffitt's Inc. He previously was a manager in the McRae's Distribution Center in Jackson.

Wes Bowen of Memphis, Tenn., completed law school at the University of Mississippi in May 1997 and is a corporate tax attorney with Arthur Andersen LLP in Memphis. He is licensed in both Mississippi and Alabama.

George Morris Bryan of Starkville has received a $10,000 grant from Jackson Limb and Brace Clinic for post-graduate study at the Orthotics-Prosthetics Center at Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago.

Jim Calhoun of Orlando, Fla., has been named head golf professional at Orange County National Golf Center in Orlando.

Charles Cook, a Navy ensign, has received his commission as a naval officer after completing Officer Candidate School at Pensacola (Fla.) Naval Air Station.

Kelly Dawn DeBardelaben of Coral Gables, Fla., is the adaptive leisure coordinator for the city of Coral Gables Beach, planning and implementing programs for people with disabilities.

Charles L. Donlin Jr. of Bartlett, Tenn., is director of student leadership at the University of Memphis.

Randy Edward Holt of Corinth is a special education teacher and a junior high basketball coach at Kossuth High School.

William Jody Killian of Monroeville, Ala., is the golf professional at Vanity Fair Golf and Tennis Club in Monroeville.

Nancy J. Lischkoff (M.S. '95) of Northport, Ala., is the industrial rehabilitation coordinator at Tuscaloosa Therapy, an affiliate of Rehabilitation Associates.

John Patrick Mansell of Madden works for Choctaw Manufacturing Enterprises in Carthage.

Jerry Levon McGee of Antioch, Tenn., has been made a partner in the landscape contracting firm of Alan Ray & Associates of Nashville.

Wendie W. Woods (M.S. '96) of Starkville is a National Certified Counselor, currently working at Mississippi State.

Curtis Ray Bass, a lieutenant in the Air Force, recently completed a one-year tour in Southeast Asia, stationed at Osan Air Base, South Korea, as a senior air weapons director. He is now stationed at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Christopher Bryan of Jackson has been promoted to supervisor of individual accounts with Blue Cross-Blue Shield in Jackson. He has been with the company since 1995.

Mary Shelby Costello of Dallas, Texas, has been promoted to project manager for Productivity Point International, a technology learning company.

Greg Freeman (M.S. '97) of Windsor, N.C., is procurement forester for Champion International's Eastern Carolina Region.
