Stamps named Truman Scholar

Stamps
For the 11th time in the past 14 years, a Mississippi State student has been named a Harry S. Truman Scholar.

Amanda L. Stamps of Long Beach, a junior political science and history major, was selected by the Truman Scholarship Foundation of Washington, D.C. She was the only student selected from Mississippi this year. Stamps, who currently serves as secretary of the Student Association, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry W. Stamps.

Established by Congress in 1975 as the official memorial to the 33rd United States president, the scholarships are awarded to students with a demonstrated interest in public service careers. In addition to one Truman Scholar for each of the 50 states, several at-large selections are made each year.

With the addition of Stamps to the list, Mississippi State continues to rank with such schools as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of California at Berkeley in the total number of Truman Scholars.

The scholarship program provides up to $30,000 toward the completion of an undergraduate degree and continued study in law or graduate school.
