Middleton takes top humanities honor
Dr. Stephen Middleton (right) was named the Humanities Teacher Award winner for 2009. The award is presented by the Mississippi Humanities Council and MSU. Winners deliver a public lecture as part of the honor; Middleton's topic was "Matilda Lawrence and Her Forlorn Hope of Freedom, 1835-1837." Congratulating Middleton, who serves as a professor of history and director of African American Studies Program, is Dr. Gary Myers, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Arts and sciences, along with the Institute for the Humanities, co-sponsored the lecture and reception and book signing that followed.
