Counseling Center Tips and Contacts
In the coming days and weeks the #1 Priority of the Counseling Center will be responding to the needs of students either directly affected by the hurricane or whose families/loved ones have been directly affected by this disaster.
How to contact the Counseling Center:
By letting the Counseling Center staff know that your concerns are hurricane-related you will be able to receive immediate attention.
8 a.m. – 5 p.m., call 325-2091 to schedule an appointment. You will very likely be able to get an appointment that day; if not, then the next day.
You may also walk Ii to the Counseling Center in Lee Hall Room 103 and ask to be seen. The first available counselor will speak with you, usually within 30 minutes of your arrival.
After 5 p.m., call 325-2121 and ask to speak to a counselor. The entire staff will be available to speak with students by phone or if necessary in person should an emergency situation arise after 5 p.m. and on weekends.
Tips for dealing with this stressful time:
- Do not repeatedly view video footage of the disaster area. Take a break from this; schedule and limit the amount of time you spend in this type of activity.
- Assume the best until information suggests otherwise.
- Support the people around you; listen to each other; find out what you can do to help a friend cope with his or her situation.
- If you feel overwhelmed or just want to talk to a counselor, call or come by the Student Counseling Center at 103 Lee Hall or call 325-2091.
