Illegal Downloading/Copyright Infringement Policy

June 22, 2010

As specified by the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 and recent IHL policy, MSU is required to have a policy and a plan to combat illegal downloading and electronic copyright infringement. Additionally, MSU must annually disclose to users of its network the policy and plan, along with information on alternatives to illegal downloading.

Beginning on July 1, and annually thereafter, when you log on to systems such as onCampus, myBanner, myCourses, and myMedia, you will be required to acknowledge and agree to abide by university policy OP 01.12, which is being revised to address illegal file downloading and electronic copyright infringement. You will also have information resources at http://filesharing.msstate.edu which will outline the university's plan to combat illegal downloading and provide pointers to legal alternatives.
