Mishra, geoscience colleagues get stop-gap grant
A competitive funding grant is helping Mississippi State scientists collect important data about the status of salt marshes impacted by the Gulf oil spill. "Our project is to continue collecting salt marsh biophysical data and biogeochemical data through the summer," said geosciences assistant professor Deepak Mishra.

Jack Cristil book orders now being accepted
Orders are now being accepted for the biography of Mississippi State's legendary sports broadcaster. "Jack Cristil: The Voice of the Bulldogs" is written by university alumnus and veteran newsman Sid Salter. Best-selling author and fellow alumnus John Grisham is providing the book's foreword.
Hopper selected for expanded leadership role
George Hopper, the dean of Mississippi State's College of Forest Resources and director of the Forest and Wildlife Research Center, will take on an expanded leadership role. Effective Aug. 19 and pending formal IHL approval, he will also serve as dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and MAFES director.

Football sets special dates for fans
Football fans will have several opportunities to get a look at the 2011 Mississippi State Bulldogs prior to the season opener, head coach Dan Mullen announced last week. The Bulldogs will conduct open practices Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and the annual Fan Day Celebration will be held on Aug. 27 in the Palmeiro Center.
