Raymond chosen for second European Fulbright
The head of Mississippi State's English department will spend the spring semester in Europe as a Fulbright Scholar. Rich Raymond will teach 20th century American literature in the master's degree program at the University of Pristina in Kosovo.
10-week piano classes for adults offered
Beginning Sept. 19, Mississippi State will offer a series of 10 evening classes for adults who wish to learn the basics of playing the piano. Only 10 spaces are available and will be filled on a first-come, first-reserve basis. Cost for the program is $150.
Monday deadline for Early Bird Boot Camp
The Sanderson Center will hold a fall Early Bird Boot Camp from Sept. 13 through Nov. 4. Interested participants must register by 5 p.m. on Monday, and there are only a few spots remaining.
Borderless Hosts family sign-up ends Monday
The Holmes Cultural Diversity Center's Borderless Hosts program is seeking volunteer host families and international students for the fall and spring semesters. The program pairs an MSU international student with a local family and gives both an opportunity for cultural learning and understanding. Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. Monday.
Eudora Welty exhibit on display at MSU Libraries
"Eudora Welty: Mississippi Daughter," an exhibit in conjunction with Mississippi State University's Maroon Edition, is on display on Mitchell Memorial Library's 2nd and 3rd floors through December 2011 and highlights the literary career of Mississippi's much-honored author.
'Successful Grant Writing' seminar Sept. 19
The Office of Research and Economic Development will host a free seminar on successful grant writing for Mississippi State faculty and researchers on Sept. 19. The two-hour program begins at 1:30 p.m. in Colvard Student Union's Fowlkes Auditorium.
MSU partners with Starkville school on science
An innovative partnership between Starkville School District and Mississippi State is teaching key science concepts in a week-long intensive immersion program for fourth and fifth graders. "Our goal is to give students a fun, safe and educational forum in which to generate enthusiasm and interest in science and the environment," said Extension Service assistant professor Jessica Tegt.
Jack Cristil book orders now being accepted
Orders are now being accepted for the biography of Mississippi State's legendary sports broadcaster. "Jack Cristil: The Voice of the Bulldogs" is written by university alumnus and veteran newsman Sid Salter. Best-selling author and fellow alumnus John Grisham is providing the book's foreword.

Men's Golf opens play in the Sam Hall Intercollegiate in Hattiesburg on Monday... Soccer travels to Hattiesburg on Tuesday for a rescheduled game with Southern Miss, and then hosts Troy on Friday at 7 p.m.... Football hosts LSU at 7 p.m. on Thursday... Volleyball hosts Florida on Friday at 7 p.m. and South Carolina at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Cross-Country hosts the Mississippi State Invitational on Saturday.
