ORED seeks cross-college group proposals
The Office of Research and Economic Development is again soliciting proposals from Mississippi State faculty who desire to create cross-college research groups on campus. The grants are intended to facilitate interdisciplinary interaction between faculty and students that have a common research theme.

Flu shot clinics set to start Tuesday
University Health Services has scheduled nine flu shot clinics this fall, and the first one will be held Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Thompson Hall, Room 125. In order to keep our campus healthy, everyone is urged to get a flu shot.

FBI biosecurity workshop coming up Oct. 18
Biosecurity and safety will be examined in detail next month during a free workshop at Mississippi State. Experts from the FBI will be at the university Oct. 18 to share information and provide training for researchers, faculty, staff and students, as well as law enforcement officers. Area first responders, health care providers and biotech company employees also are invited to participate.

Welty's 'Why I Live at the P.O.' takes stage
Award-winning actress Brenda Currin appears this week at Mississippi State in the critically acclaimed stage production of "Why I Live at the P.O." Adapted from the works of Mississippi author Eudora Welty, the free program begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday on the university's McComas Hall main stage.

Eudora Welty exhibit on display at MSU Libraries
"Eudora Welty: Mississippi Daughter," an exhibit in conjunction with Mississippi State University's Maroon Edition, is on display on Mitchell Memorial Library's 2nd and 3rd floors through December 2011 and highlights the literary career of Mississippi's much-honored author.

Jack Cristil book orders now being accepted
Orders are now being accepted for the biography of Mississippi State's legendary sports broadcaster. "Jack Cristil: The Voice of the Bulldogs" is written by university alumnus and veteran newsman Sid Salter. Best-selling author and fellow alumnus John Grisham is providing the book's foreword.

Benefits open enrollment underway
Benefits open enrollment for eligible Mississippi State employees will be held Oct. 1-25, according to Human Resources Management. Open enrollment changes include adding new coverage, changing existing coverage or canceling coverage. The changes become effective Jan. 1, 2012.
MSU ranks No. 3 among healthiest universities
Located in a state frequently ranked high for obesity and diabetes, Mississippi State University is listed highly in a report ranking the healthiest universities in the nation. In the recent report published by Newsweek and The Daily Beast, MSU took the No. 3 healthiest college ranking.
Biofuels conference on campus this week
U.S. Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus will deliver the keynote address during the 2011 Mississippi State University Biofuels Conference on campus this week. Glenn Steele, director of MSU's Energy Institute, said the yearly gatherings are designed to share perspectives of leaders in business, government and industry while showcasing leading biofuels and renewable energy research.
