University, city proclaim National Nutrition Month
Mississippi State University President Mark Keenum and Starkville Mayor Parker Wiseman have declared March to be National Nutrition Month at MSU and in the city. Created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the annual campaign focuses on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.

Lab notebook do's and don'ts on agenda Wednesday
If your research led to a fantastic discovery, and you were asked to prove that the research was actually yours, could you do it? As part of its Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training, the Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED) at Mississippi State will provide a two-hour session on "The Do's and Don'ts of Keeping an MSU Lab Notebook" on Wednesday, March 21 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in Colvard Student Union's Fowlkes Auditorium.

Institutional diversity, inclusion in focus this week
Mississippi State University's Office of Diversity and Equity Programs, along with the Holmes Cultural Diversity Center, Bagley College of Engineering Diversity Programs and Student Development, National Pan-Hellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, and the President's Commission on the Status of Minorities, will sponsor a session focusing on institutional diversity and inclusion this Wednesday.

Mississippi State University assistant professor of history James Giesen will present "History of the Morrill Act: The Mississippi Perspective" on Thursday, March 29 at 3 p.m. The free event open to all is Gamma Sigma Delta's inaugural spring seminar, and it will be held in Thompson Hall's Tully Auditorium. Ragtime Jazz Festival to 'razzle-dazzle' campus
Dynamic musical showmanship and toe-tapping entertainment again are on the schedule for the sixth annual Charles Templeton Ragtime Jazz Festival at Mississippi State. Taking place on the university campus March 30-31, the major spring event includes evening concerts in Lee Hall's Bettersworth Auditorium, along with daytime sessions and tours at the Templeton Music Museum in Mitchell Memorial Library.

Topics will include recent changes in China and their effect on domestic furniture production, opportunities for a resurgence of manufacturing in America, and regulations impacting furniture production.

MSU Libraries offers presidential archives tools
MSU Libraries' University Archives Department announces the addition of new finding aids for the collections of Mississippi State University presidents. "So far we have seven PDF versions of these inventories available to our patrons," said Ryan Semmes, assistant archivist at MSU Libraries, "and they cover MSU's presidents from their beginnings, with Stephen D. Lee in 1880 to Buz Walker in 1930."

Schaefer named new Lady Bulldog basketball coach
Mississippi State has named 26-year coaching veteran Vic Schaefer the program's seventh women's basketball coach, director of athletics Scott Stricklin announced last Tuesday. Currently in his 15th season as an associate head coach at Texas A&M, Schaefer has helped guide the Aggies to seven NCAA Tournament appearances, including the program's first national championship last season.
14 selected for staff development program
Fourteen Mississippi State staff members have been chosen for the 2012 Learning Experience for Aspiring Professionals (LEAP) program. Participants attended their first meeting together March 8. "Employee development programs such as LEAP help give our professionals the tools they need to compete and succeed," said Meg Arnold, PHR, the learning and development manager for Human Resources Management.
Seymour awarded national teaching honor
The Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture honored Mississippi State University associate professor Michael Seymour with the national 2012 Excellence in Teaching Award. He has taught in MSU's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in the Department of Landscape Architecture for seven years.
Export compliance training, inspection set
Mississippi State University will host a leading security consultant for two days of export compliance training, auditing and an inspection later this month. Charles "Chip" Palmer, the vice president for training and business development of Maryland-based Export Compliance Solutions LLC (ECS), will be on campus March 27-28 to provide important training for MSU faculty and staff working on or managing contracts that involve Export Administrations Regulations (EAR) and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
