McDaniel appointed to international advisory council
A Bagley College of Engineering staff member will join the advisory council for the largest international pre-college science fair competition. Christina McDaniel has been selected to serve on the advisory council for the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. She serves as coordinator for the Region V Mississippi Science and Engineering Fair through the college’s K-12 Outreach Office.

Officials break ground on classroom building
Mississippi State officials held a groundbreaking ceremony late last month for a new three-level facility that will add 20 classrooms on the upper level and a 150-space, two-story parking garage. Tim Muzzi, associate director of architectural planning and construction, predicted the new building will become an immediately identifiable campus symbol that helps welcome students, employees and visitors to campus.

Library expands hours for final exams
As the spring semester at Mississippi State nears a close and final exams are set to begin, Mitchell Memorial Library has adjusted its hours of operation. Starting Sunday at 1 p.m., the library will be open 24 hours a day until May 8 at 4:45 p.m. in support of student needs during the spring exam period.

Faculty leadership program seeks nominations
In the upcoming 2014-2015 academic year, the Office of Research and Economic Development and the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President at Mississippi State will again be conducting an Academic Leadership Orientation Program for selected faculty. This program has been very successful in the past, and many of its participants serve in key leadership positions on campus. Nominations for the program are now being accepted.

May dinner to honor Wiseman, fund scholarship
A group of longtime friends and former students of a recently retired Mississippi State political scientist is announcing a May fund-raising event to create a campus scholarship endowment in his honor. Professor W. Martin "Marty" Wiseman, former longtime director of the university's John C. Stennis Institute of Government and Economic Development, will be honored at a May 22 dinner.
Hopper earns award for food animal medicine
Dr. Richard M. Hopper, professor with the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine, has been awarded the El Toro Award for Excellence in Food Animal Medicine at Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Hopper, who teaches in the Department of Pathobiology and Population Medicine and is an MSU Extension Service veterinarian, received the award during Auburn’s 107th veterinary annual conference.
Truax tapped by two accreditation boards
Two national organizations have tapped the head of civil engineering in the Bagley College of Engineering at Mississippi State for service on a commission for engineering accreditation. Dennis D. Truax will represent the National Society of Professional Engineers and the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying on the ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission. He is a professor and head of the department of civil and environmental engineering and holds the James T. White endowed chair.
Mullen earns scholarship winnings at charity golf
Mississippi State head football coach Dan Mullen and former Bulldog Fred McCrary teamed up to claim $70,000 in scholarship winnings for the school after the two-day Chick-fil-A Bowl Golf Challenge held at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga., last week. Mullen and McCrary shot 9-under par to finish second overall and tops among all Southeastern Conference teams.
